Ever since their career kicked off, BTS had a handful of dreams they wanted to see come true, and seeing their music rank on the Billboard charts has been one of their most recurrent wishes.
Fast forward three years, and BTS are now dominating everything Billboard: from the "Top Social Artist" award which they have snatched for three years in a row from its original title holder Justin Bieber, who has been claiming it ever since this award category came to be, to performing on stage and setting the arena on fire.
The 2019 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) are definitely a ceremony to remember. The group started the night by walking the red carpet with a chic dark-suited look. As usual, they memorialized the event by posing with many celebrities throughout the night, such as Drake, Madonna, Becky G, Ciara, Tori Kelly, Terry Crews, Khalid, and Offset and Cardi B. The boys also had a heartwarming interaction with the Jonas Brothers, pleasing fans of both boy bands.
On top of the “Top Social Artist” trophy, a new Billboard triumph adds to BTS's growing list of achievements this year: winning the "Best Duo/Group" award, which makes them the first Korean artist to hold this title at the BBMAs, as well as being the first Korean act to win a total of four trophies at the musical event. While everyone has been looking forward to witnessing this legendary moment, actually seeing it happen comes as a huge surprise; one that warmed hearts and made devoted fans overjoyed.
What makes this achievement even more special is the fact that the "Best Duo/Group" category is non-fan voted, meaning that the impact BTS has on the US music industry has surpassed the fandom and the general public to reach the music critics as well.
To commemorate this glorious win, BTS's leader Kim Namjoon AKA RM (with members Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimi, V, and Jungkook) gave the speech of a lifetime in front of a star-studded audience who lit up the room with their cheers and applause alongside the ARMY present who were lucky enough to witness this moment in person.
Later on, the boys switched gear in order to get ready for their performance of "Boy With Luv" joined by Halsey on stage. This marks BTS's first stage performance with a western artist particularly, and their first stage collaboration with an artist with them serving as the main act overall.
Congratulations to BTS! What are your thoughts on this historic achievement?
